PSS Optimizes existing pallet sorting and repair line at Rotom Belgium
At Rotom Belgium, Pallet Sorting Systems (PSS) has undertaken a major modernization. After first tackling the front of the sorting line and installing a standard pallet sorting line, the Motoman Yaskawa robots were also decommissioned, these Motoman Yaskawa disassembly robots required a lot of maintenance and were too slow for the repair flow. In addition, the stacking robot behind the pallet counters was decommissioned and replaced with a three-piece standard pallet stacker with output conveyors.
Major plant improvements:
1. Replacement of old machine parts.
Outdated third-party parts, which required a lot of maintenance and attention from Rotom’s technicians, were replaced with standard solutions from PSS. This significantly increased plant reliability and reduced maintenance requirements.
The 6 pallet repairers receive the pallets to be repaired via an upper conveyor. After repair, the pallets are sent via the bottom lane to one of the three standard stackers. This ensures a smooth and structured process.
3. Optimized forklift movements
With only 1 sorter and 1 forklift driver, the supply and removal of unsorted and sorted pallets are efficiently managed. Optimized logistics have reduced forklift movements by 50%, which not only saves time but also makes the working environment safer.
4. Reduction of physical work
For the pallet handlers, lifting heavy pallets has been reduced to a minimum. Moving pallets manually is a thing of the past, significantly reducing physical strain and contributing to a more ergonomic working environment.
