Rotom France: pallet sorting line is now pallet sorting repair line

A pallet sorting and repair line from Pallet Sorting Systems (PSS) is in operation at Rotom France. What makes this setup unique is that the original sorting line was later expanded to include a repair section, entirely using standard components from PSS. This modular approach ensures that the line seamlessly meets Rotom France’s growing needs without major modifications.

Development of the line

Start with a standard sorting line:

Initially, Rotom France used a standard sorting line from PSS, designed to efficiently inspect and sort pallets. This line provided smooth pallet handling and optimal sorting by type and class.

Expansion to include repair section:

As the need grew to repair pallets internally, the sorting line was expanded to include a repair section. Thanks to the modular construction of the PSS solutions, this could easily be realized with standard components. This allowed four repair workstations to be added without having to make major changes to the existing line.

Operation of the current line

1. Putting on pallets outside:

The pallets are placed outside on a chain conveyor. This feeds the pallets via a chain conveyor change to the tipper, after which they are presented one by one for inspection.

2. Inspection and repair:

During inspection, an operator determines if a pallet needs to be repaired. Repair pallets are led to the overhead conveyor and then taken to one of four repair workstations.

3. Sorting by type and class:

Pallets that do not require repair are immediately sorted by type or class. These pallets are stacked in the automatic stackers behind the repair area.

Advantages of the modular approach

1. Flexible expansion options:

The expansion of the original sorting line with a repair section shows how flexible PSS systems are. With standard components, the line can be easily adapted to new requirements.

2. Cost and time savings:

Thanks to the modular design, no major modifications were required, resulting in lower costs and a short implementation time.

3. Efficient work processes:

The combination of sorting and repair increases efficiency by processing pallets only where needed.

4. High capacity:

With four repair workstations and automatic sorting, Rotom France can handle a large volume of pallets while keeping the workload distributed.
